DOUGLAS L. SMITH
Douglas
Smith joined the Firm in January, 1997, is a shareholder,
and brings significant litigation
experience in State and Federal Court. Admitted to the Florida Bar
in 1989, he is a member of the U.S. District Court, Northern
District of Florida;
U. S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit; U. S. Supreme Court; and
U. S. District Court, Middle District of Florida. Mr. Smith
graduated from Duke
University, receiving his B.A. Degree, cum laude, in 1983, after which
he spent two years as a member of the U.S. Peace Corps,
1984-1986. He then entered
the College of William & Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law and
received his Juris Doctor in 1989. He was awarded the coveted Algernon
Sydney Sullivan
Award and the Phoenix Award by the College of William &
Mary.
Mr. Smith is active in the practice areas
of Civil Litigation, Commercial Law, Real Property Law, Banking,
Eminent Domain, and Creditor Bankruptcy
Law. He is a member of the Florida Bar, Bay County Bar Association, a former
member of the Fourteenth Circuit Grievance Committee, past Chairman of the
Northern District Bankruptcy Bar Association CLE Committee, and Volunteer
Attorney for Private Bar Involvement. He is a Certified Circuit Civil Mediator.
Smith has graded and written an examination question used by the Florida
Board of Bar Examiners.
A civic leader,
Smith is past-president of Habitat for Humanity of Bay County, Florida, Inc.;
a member and former Board Member of NSCS Federal Credit Union; Panama City
Kiwanis Club; a member of Leadership Bay Class of 1997; Race Director, Race
Judicata, 1991-97; past member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Arizona
Chemical Corporation; past member of Northwestside Volunteer Fire Department;
a member of the Duke University Alumni Interview Committee; and a member
of Panhandle Runners & Triathletes Club.
